In all GDS-upgraded unsaturated soil tests, axis translation technology is used to control matrix suction. This method requires the use of a pressure controller or regulator to control the pore air pressure of the soil sample, and a clay plate with a high air intake value to isolate air and water. Due to the presence of air in the pores, the volume deformation of the test specimen becomes very complicated, and different methods can be applied to accurately measure the volume change.
